This year (2023), I started experimenting with wild clays, and made a new series "Wild Clay Vessels."
This collection is a natural progression from another series 'Core Vase' that I have been making over years. The inspiration for the core vase was 'core samples', a cylindrical section of the earth. While I routinely recycle various clays I use for different projects, I get some spontaneous blends of manufactured clays. I enjoy exploring the variety of qualities and textures inherent in these random clay blends, creating subtle variations in texture and colour. Despite the workability that manufactured or designed clays offer, I sought a challenge and more variety in the texture. This led me to venture into experimenting with wild clays.
Wild clays, marked by their unpredictable nature and distinct characteristics, presented a challenge during the throwing process. Consequently, I shifted to hand-building to better capture the essence of these wild materials. Every piece is made by coiling and undergoes either a single firing, double firing, or even triple firing. They are made with love and joy, and I sincerely hope you like them too.
